Ex-Perak MB to contest in Sg Rapat

IPOH: Former Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin will contest the Sungai Rapat state seat in the 14th general election.
In the 13th general election, Nizar won the Changkat Jering state seat under a PAS ticket.
Nizar is currently Perak Parti Amanah Nasional deputy chairman.
Meanwhile, Perak Amanah vice chairman, Tan Seng Toh, 50, will contest the Ayer Kuning state seat.
This will be the businessman's third attempt after contesting the Tapah parliament seat in 2008 and the Bercham state seat in 2004 under a PKR ticket.
Tan who joined Amanah since its formation in 2016, said that he has been well received on the ground.
"I have been doing my work for some time in the area, I am confident of winning," he said, adding that he joined Amanah as the party's strategy in fighting for the rights of the rakyat and fairness attracted him to their cause.
Perak Amanah chairman Asmuni Awi when asked why a non-Muslim candidate was picked, replied that this was to reflect the multiracial concept of the party.
"In fact, we asked for 10 seats for non-Malays but only got one ... however, we are confident of winning all the seats the party is contesting.
"The candidates come from a diverse background including lecturers, educators, engineers, lawyers, media personnel and doctors.
"We have agreed to the PKR logo as the Pakatan Harapan symbol," he told reporters when announcing the candidates and the seats here today.
Asmuni will contest the Manjoi state seat.
The party will contest in four parliament and 12 state seats in Perak.
