KUALA LUMPUR: The planned housing project at Taman Rimba Kiara, Taman Tun Dr Ismail (TTDI) is still pending approval from Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL).
Kuala Lumpur Mayor Datuk Seri Mhd Amin Nordin Abd Aziz said he would hold a meeting with residents of Taman Rimba before approving the project in accordance with provisions of Rule 5, Development Plan 1970 (Amendment 1994).
"DBKL had offered units in public housing projects as compensation to the original inhabitants of the area but it was rejected because they refused to move out from there.
"The project will proceed as soon as it is approved. The development does not affect Rimba Kiara recreational area," he said when met at a blood donation programme at Menara DBKL, here today.
The TTDI Residents Association plans to take legal action if the project is approved.
The project involving the construction of 1,766 units of service apartments and 350 units of affordable apartments has been opposed because of the concern for one of the last the green lungs in the city.
Development of a 29-storey affordable apartments and eight blocks of service apartments were opposed as it could increase the population density from 74 persons per 0.4 hectares to 979 people for the same area.
Yesterday, Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor said the housing project would proceed as planned.
He said 180 units of affordable apartments would be given free to former estate workers (Indians) who were the original inhabitants of the area before TTDI was developed as promised 30 years ago. — Bernama
