LDP sec-gen Yong Wui Chung made senator
KUALA LUMPUR: Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) secretary-general Datuk Yong Wui Chung (pix) was sworn in today as a senator.
Yong, 53, who hails from Kota Kinabalu, took his oath of office before Dewan Negara president Datuk S.A. Vigneswaran.
The civil engineer, who holds a degree from the University of South Dakota, United States, will serve for a three-year term beginning today.
Vigneswaran congratulated Yong and said he hoped that the new senator would be able to help strengthen the image of parliament as a credible and highly respected legislature in the international arena.
Yong, when approached by Bernama, said his appointment was an honour and that it was his responsibility to serve the people.
He said he would give priority to the various issues affecting the people, regardless of whether they were at the Sabah or national level. — Bernama
