Mahathir's Hari-Raya message to the nation

PUTRAJAYA: Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations with the full attendance of all his family members is what Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad cherishes the most.

"There was one year when all my family members were there for the occasion and that was the best. Some years, others were not able to make it but it was nevertheless a fun occasion."
In a four-minute video published on his Facebook account, the premier also said his favourite Raya song is "Selamat Hari Raya" performed by the late Sudirman Arshad.
"My favourite kuih is 'kuih makmur' with less sugar in it. Before this I would enjoy it with more sugar but now it is not the case," he said during a brief question and answer session in the video.
Mahathir also said purple was his favourite Baju Melayu colour.
In his message to the nation, Mahathir said despite it being the eve of Hari Raya, he is still working since morning and will continue to work until evening without taking a break.
"To those who are travelling back to your respective hometowns, please remember that your families are waiting for you. Do not disappoint them by getting involved in an accident.
"Take it easy while driving. It is okay to be late as long as you safely reach your destinations," he said, adding that those who are feeling tired while driving should take sufficient rest before resuming their journey.
Those celebrating, he said should also eat moderately and not resort to gluttony on this festive occasion.
"Don't play with firecrackers and fireworks because one might injure themselves to a point where some lose their fingers," he added.
On behalf of his wife Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohamad Ali and himself, Mahathir also wished Malaysians Selamat Hari Raya Aidifitri and invited the public to join him at his Hari-Raya open house tomorrow.
