Najib to transform Indian community

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak says that he would like to transform the Indian community from a community known as an estate community to a modern, progressive one as he cares for the welfare of the Indians in Malaysia.
Speaking at Makkal Sakti's 9th Annual General Meeting, he said he is the only prime minister who has initiated the Malaysian Indian Blueprint to transform the Indian community in Malaysia.
"I have initiated the Malaysian Indian Blueprint to transform the community from an estate based community to a progressive modern society. There has not been a record in parliament so far for a programme for Indians. This is why we must give the confidence to someone who has the capability of carrying it out," he said in his speech.
Najib said that judgment should not be made based on political rhetorical talks nor politics of hate.
"We are committed to help the Indian community and that this was not 'vetti pechu' or empty talk but 'nijam' or the truth. Unlike some who only talk and almost use politics of hate," Najib said.
The Barisan Nasional led government has also allocated almost RM1 billion for National Type Tamil Schools (SJKT).
The completion of a Tamil school in Taman Sentosa, Klang marks the completion of 525 Tamil schools in Malaysia while the Mentri Besar of Negri Sembilan recently called him to notify him of the completion of "the best Tamil school in the country".
"When he did send the photos, the school was indeed beautiful," he said.
Meanwhile, Najib said the 6.2% economic growth in the third quarter of this year, as well as the strengthening of the Ringgit, also showed public confidence in the country's economic management.
He said Malaysia had also been acknowledged by international rating agencies such as the World Economic Forum, which placed Malaysia as the 23rd most competitive country in the world.
"This is what we must choose. We choose a government that can guarantee our future. We want a bigger mandate for BN because we want to build a better future for Malaysia," he said.
Makkal Sakti president Datuk Seri R. S. Thanenthiran took veiled attacks at a BN component party without naming the party.
"Monopolising by one party is creating 'little Napoleons' and brings a bad name to the prime minister. We can work together as a team to win the battle, win the race and together BN can win the election," he said in his speech.
He also asked for a RM70 million allocation for a national transformation center for wayward Indian youths.
Najib said he will think about it before approving the request as it involves a huge sum of money.
"That is a big project that is going to cost us a lot of money. The intention is good but we need a collective input to carry this out. We will see how much we can help out," Najib said.
