Newborn baby found abandoned at mosque in Tawau

TAWAU: A newborn baby girl, wrapped in a towel, was found abandoned at the gate of the Kampung Checkpoint Mosque, Batu 38, Jalan Apas Balung near here this morning.
Tawau district police chief ACP Fadil Marsus said the baby was found by a woman about 7.40am when she spotted something wrapped in a towel on the floor.
"She was about to start selling 'nasi lemak' at 7.30am in front of the mosque, when she spotted something wrapped in a towel and upon inspection she found the newborn baby, and quickly contacted the Bandar Sri Indah police station," he said in a statement here today.
Fadil said the baby was sent to the Tawau Hospital and initial checks by medical officer Dr Nik Kasyfun confirmed the baby to have been born less than 24 hours when she was found, weighed 2.75kg and has no physical injury.
Fadil said the hospital would monitor the situation and provide follow-up treatment to the baby. — Bernama
