Pakatan ceramah in Putrajaya draws almost 10,000

PUTRAJAYA: Pakatan Harapan's ceramah beside the Masjid Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin in Presint 3, here, last night saw close to 10,000 people in attendance, mostly eager to catch the glimpse of former premier turned Opposition leader Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
Mahathir, 92, along with Amanah's latest high profile recruit Nik Omar Nik Abdul Aziz were the biggest crowd puller as both were flanked by Pakatan Harapan's Putrajaya candidate Datuk Samsu Adabi Mamat and DAP's Hannah Yeoh and Anthony Loke in giving out their respective speeches during last night's session.
Despite the huge crowd and presence of civil servants, the majority of them were outsiders and not Putrajaya voters.
The size of the crowd which swelled both on the venue and across social media with the live video feed of the event saw Mahathir exclaim his surprise when it
was finally his turn to speak.
"I am truly shocked to see such a huge crowd. I thought the people of Putrajaya were scared but I am wrong. I hope all of you are here to save Putrajaya," he told the crowd that greeted him with a thunderous applause.
He called the people to come out in large numbers to turn up and vote for Pakatan Harapan.
"There is no point in winning by several hundred or thousand votes. Our mission to win with a resounding majority, we are talking about several thousand
votes.
"If the majority votes are bigger, Datuk Seri Najib Razak will have a tough time utilising the postal votes to save those in Barisan Nasional who might need
them," he said to the thunderous applause by the crowd.
The authorities' decision instructions to tear down posters and banners with pictures of him, he said only reflects BN's fear of Pakatan Harapan.
"They are so scared of a picture that would not have done any harm. It's not like my picture is going to swallow someone is it?," he said.
It is estimated that 62,000 viewers were watching the live feed of the event on Mahathir's Facebook page.
He also recounted Pakatan Harapan's promise that the Prime Minister will only hold the position for a maximum of two terms only.
Earlier, Nik Omar with his attractive smile and simple demeanour hit the stage and recalled his late father and PAS spiritual leader Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik
Mat promoting the importance of bridging the spirit of unity between Muslims and non-Muslims in the country.
"(My late father) was weak and had fever but he still wanted to visit (the late) Karpal Singh in Penang for his birthday. That is the spirit all of us must
forge in Malaysia," he said.
