GEORGE TOWN: A lawyer acting for Penang Environment, Welfare and Caring Society Committee chairman Phee Boon Poh has called upon the Malaysian Anti Corruption Agency (MACC) to return the Mykad of his client.

R. S. N Rayer said the anti-graft agency had taken the document when Phee was detained earlier this month.

He pointed out that Phee could be fined RM2,000 for not possessing his Mykad as it was against the law.

"At least give him back his Mykad, if he gets arrested again we will have to run around to help him," he said to laughter in a press conference today.

Phee was detained by the MACC after the agency raided an illegal carbon filter processing factory in Kampung Sungai Lembu.

Two senior managers of the factory were also detained but all three were released after the Penang High Court found the remand order was invalid.

Rayer also called upon the MACC to explain how details of bank accounts belonging to Phee which were frozen could have been leaked to the media.

He said they have yet to receive an official notification on the freeze about the bank accounts.

"Before we check with the banks, we want a notification," the Seri Delima assemblyman said.
