RMAF assures Butterworth Air Base will remain in operation

BUTTERWORTH: Air Force chief Tan Sri Gen Affendi Buang today gave assurances that the Butterworth Air Force base will remain in operation.
He said there were also no security issues at the base camp.
"I and Deputy Defence Minister Senator Liew Chin Tong here will ensure that this camp will remain open for as long as it is required," he told reporters at the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) Open Day programme at the camp, here today.
The event was officiated by Liew.
Affendi was commenting on claims that the base camp would be redeveloped as a residential area.
Meanwhile, Liew said the programme today could provide the people with a better understanding about the RMAF.
"This programme is very good for the public, especially to better understand the roles and duties of the RMAF and MAF (Malaysian Armed Forces) in protecting the country," he said.
The RMAF Open Day, held in conjunction with the Air Force's 60th anniversary, featured various activities and performances including an air show, band, and a demonstration by the Air Force Special Squad (Paskau).
