ISKANDAR PUTERI: A 15-year-old student was attacked by a group of youths after he purportedly refused to join their gang.
In the near midnight incident on Aug 19, the victim, who was having a meal with his friend in Taman Nusa Bestari, was approached by 10 teenagers who had earlier offered the former to join their gang.
The group then gave chase, and started beating up the victim on the head, arms and private part, with one of the assailants allegedly using a metal rod to hit him.
The victim, who sustained a wound on his scalp and a broken finger, has since been discharged from hospital.
Iskandar Puteri police chief ACP Noor Hashim Mohamad said police were alerted to the incident that night, and had also recorded a statement from the victim.
Following the report, three suspects aged 14, 15 and 18, were arrested at an apartment in Taman Tampoi Indah at 4.50am on Aug 21, and later released on police bail on Aug 25, he said.
He added that investigation papers were being finalised before being submitted to the deputy public prosecutor for the next course of action.
Noor Hashim said one of the suspects works as a mobile phone salesman, while the two others are unemployed.
The case is being investigated under Section 326 of the Penal Code for causing grievous hurt using dangerous weapons.
