BANGKOK: Football Association of Thailand (FAT) officials are perplexed over a break-in at its headquarters two days ago, whereby only select financial documents were stolen.
The police have described the break-in and theft as the work of "professionals".
"I do not know why someone would break in and steal the documents," FAT chief, Somyot Pumpanmuang told the local media.
He suspected that the burglars could have been targeting documents related to match-fixing incidents.
Somyot believed the intruders had failed in their mission as certain vital documents were kept elsewhere due to security reason.
Last year, FAT joined the Thai Police in launching a crackdown on match-fixing activities within the Thai League.
Quoted by the local media then, Somyot claimed he knew those who were involved in match-fixing and would reveal their identities later.
Meanwhile, investigating officer Lt Gen Thirapong Wongratphithak was quoted by the local media as saying, the intruders covered the closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras with paper to ensure it could not record their movements.
The server which was used to operate the CCTV was also stolen, he said, adding the perpetrators of the break-in also knew the layout of the building. — Bernama
