A driver narrowly escaped a charging elephant on Bukit Kuala Rui route near Pulau Banding, Perak
A motorist experienced a nerve-wracking encounter with an elephant on the Bukit Kuala Rui route near the Perak-Kelantan border, yesterday morning.
According to a TikTok video shared by @Aimi Nawi, the elephant suddenly charged toward their vehicle, forcing the driver to reverse quickly to avoid a collision.
A four-wheel drive behind them was also caught in the situation before speeding away from the scene.
“I’ve encountered elephants many times on the East-West Highway, but this is the first time one came this close,” the user wrote in the caption.
The driver explained that despite using the route for 30 years, they had never seen elephants in that particular area before.
“Usually they’re further up the road. The elephant was already heading into the forest, so we felt relieved. But minutes later, it suddenly turned around and charged straight at us,” they wrote in the comments section.
“We had no choice but to reverse, even though there was a ravine beside the road.”
The video drew various reactions from viewers who expressed shock and concern for the driver’s safety, with many advising extra caution.
Another commenter, Jas, wrote: “Oh my, it was already heading into the forest but got angry at the vehicles. Wonder if someone said something there.”
“Alhamdulillah, from 2002 until now I’ve only encountered one once, at night. Even then we kept moving because we didn’t notice it until we got close. If we’d braked, we would’ve been sitting right next to it,” shared another user, Cik Misi.
Wildlife encounters on the East-West Highway remain a concern for motorists, with authorities regularly advising drivers to stay alert, especially during dawn and dusk when animals are most active.
