A woman claims her driver refused to cancel a booking after a breakdown, raising concerns among users about potential e-hailing scams.

A Malaysian woman recently alleged that an e-hailing driver refused to cancel her ride booking despite his car breaking down while on the way to pick her up.

In a post shared on Threads that later went viral, she claimed that the driver informed her of the breakdown, to which she asked him to cancel the ride.

However, the driver allegedly told the passenger that he could not cancel the booking as he was “slowly” making his way to the pick-up point.

She then pleaded with the driver to cancel the booking himself, as the fare had already been deducted from her bank account, but he reportedly refused to comply, insisting that he was near the pick-up location.

She also claimed to have waited around 10 to 15 minutes for the driver to cancel the booking, but allegedly found that he refused to budge.

Following the frustrating exchange, the passenger later updated that she will be contacting the e-hailing platform’s customer service to lodge a report against the driver.

As the post gained traction, many believed that the driver could be attempting to scam the passenger and urged her to escalate the matter to the platform.

“Former e-hailing driver here. We can cancel even if we’re near the pick-up location. Don’t fall for his trick,” advised one user.

“This looks like a scam. If the car really experienced a breakdown, the driver could simply contact the e-hailing platform to cancel the ride if they want to maintain their ratings. It seems as though the driver was looking to be compensated,” speculated another.
