A KL mall diner complains about paying RM10.50 for plain rice and fried chicken, sparking mixed reactions as netizens debate mall food prices.

A Malaysian diner has sparked online debate after sharing his surprise over being charged RM10.50 for a simple meal of white rice and a fried chicken drumstick at a food court in Pavilion Bukit Jalil.

In a post shared to the Facebook group Pavilion 2 Bukit Jalil 大小事, the man uploaded a photo of his meal with the caption “No more next time”, expressing frustration over what he felt was an unreasonable price.

According to the receipt, the bill included RM2.50 for one serving of rice, RM1.30 for an additional half serving of rice and RM5.70 for the fried chicken drumstick. With RM0.59 in service tax added, the total came to RM10.50.

The man claimed he did not request extra rice and said it was added without his consent.

“I didn’t say I wanted extra rice. She added it herself — I don’t even know if she really did. It was my first time eating there, so I didn’t know how much rice the RM2.50 portion came with. I can accept high prices, but I can’t accept extra rice being added without my consent,” he wrote.

His post quickly went viral, attracting over 2,300 likes and 750 of comments.

Some netizens pointed out that dining at shopping malls often comes at a premium, while others were less sympathetic, saying the situation could have been avoided if the customer had asked about prices beforehand.

One user called Danny Ong Xiang Zheng asked: “What’s the issue? Rice RM2.5 (total is RM3.80 after adding another small portion of rice) and chicken around RM6-7… Sounds reasonable especially in the Pavilion mall.”

“I think it’s normal, it’s just RM10.50—don’t make such a big deal. If it’s so expensive for you, cook at home. Everything’s more expensive now anyway; even buying groceries has gone up,” Vivian Lin opined.

“Posting this is really just asking for criticism and showing everyone how poor and clueless you are,” Jayken Lee commented.
