A 39-year-old man shared his dilemma after allegedly spending RM500K on his girlfriend, sparking debate on financial boundaries in relationships.

A Malaysian man has shared his emotional dilemma online after claiming he spent around RM500,000 over five years on his girlfriend, leaving him torn between continuing the relationship or walking away.

The 39-year-old, who works in Singapore, said he first met the Vietnamese national at an entertainment outlet, commonly known as a KTV, in 2021.

According to the man, the woman claimed she had been “deceived” into coming to Malaysia, prompting him to spend RM30,000 in an attempt to “buy her freedom”, he said in a Facebook post.

Following the initial payment, the woman allegedly continued requesting money for various reasons, including “family deaths” and other personal matters, eventually amounting to around RM100,000.

The man said he had previously been involved with another woman but ended the relationship to pursue a future with the Vietnamese woman at the end of 2024.

Before that, he claimed she had “disappeared” for more than a year after receiving the RM100,000 before later returning to Malaysia for work.

“After that, I continued helping her settle debts in both Malaysia and Vietnam. In total, I have spent more than RM500,000 on her. That was almost all of my savings,” he shared.

During her time back in Malaysia, the woman reportedly continued working at a KTV while repeatedly asking him for money for her family’s medical expenses, Chinese New Year preparations and other costs.

The man said the relationship later became more serious after she brought up marriage and having children.

He also travelled to Vietnam to meet her family, but claimed she later requested another RM200,000 to help her parents build a house.

“She hoped I would even borrow money to help her achieve it. That was when I started to wake up,” he wrote.

Following the request, he said he began noticing changes in himself, admitting that his usually cheerful and outgoing personality had gradually faded as the relationship became emotionally exhausting.

“She also often complained about me, saying I was not mature enough and did not know how to plan properly,” he added.
