M’sian calls out humanitarian agency for staff rudeness over cancelling monthly donations

A Malaysian woman alleges rude treatment by humanitarian aid agency staff when cancelling her monthly donation, prompting similar complaints.

A Malaysian woman recently expressed her frustration with an international humanitarian aid organisation following her attempt to cancel her monthly donation allegedly went awry.

In a post shared on Threads, the woman claimed that the agency’s customer service staff behaved rudely after she informed them of her decision to terminate the donation.

“Your staff called to mock me and said, ‘You are quick to terminate, eh,’ before ending the call. Very rude!

“It’s not like I owe anything to you, and I have my reasons for terminating the donation. It is entirely up to me to do so. I even called the hotline to cancel, but my call did not go through. So disappointed,” she alleged in the viral post.

The woman was not the only one to report such an experience. Several other users claimed they had encountered similar treatment when attempting to cancel their donations to the agency.

“I received a call from one of them. I told him that I was in the hospital, but he continued telling a sob story about children and kept asking me what I was going to do about it, repeating the same question over and over. I eventually ended the call. This was back in March 2023,” one user alleged.

“Don’t entertain these agencies. They are not volunteers — they are chasing commissions. It is really hard to terminate donations,” another claimed.

Some users said they had resorted to changing their bank cards to prevent further deductions.

“Those agencies are not ‘volunteers’. They don’t work directly for the children or people in need, as they claim, but for companies that also profit from monthly donations. It’s better to donate to your local mosque, temple or local NGOs,” one user cautioned.

Others also recalled encounters with these representatives in person, alleging that they were persistently pressured to donate.
