M’sian says husband who spent 9 years in Japan left her for being a minute late

Woman says husband drove off at 11:01am, leaving her and child behind over punctuality shaped by 9 years working in Japan.

A Malaysian woman has taken to X to vent about her husband’s rigid punctuality, a habit she attributes to his nine years working in Japan.

In an NGL screenshot posted by @meinmokhtar, she wrote: “Did I make a mistake marrying a husband who worked in Japan for 9 years? Everything is so fast now. Walk fast, eat fast.”

“The other day we were going to a wedding and agreed to leave at 11am, but at the very last minute our child had to poop. At 11:01am, he started the car and drove off, leaving me and the child at home.”

The post quickly drew attention and reactions from netizens, with many questioning the husband’s extreme behaviour.

@illmierozlan said, “Being punctual and efficient isn’t something only Japanese work habits require. But leaving when your child has pooped? That’s hard to understand. He should have helped clean up so you could leave on time.”

Some commenters argued that this behaviour reflects personality more than cultural influence.

@nzmghani wrote, “It’s not Japan’s fault. That’s just how he is,” while @SyahrulZainiX added, “That’s not about being fast. That’s selfish. Even Japanese people aren’t like that. He just doesn’t want to deal with the child.”

Others offered practical advice and perspective. @yvyvivy suggested her to share responsibility by having the husband handle the child while she checks that everything else is ready, explaining that this is why he finishes things so fast.

@Ronnie50604835 pointed out that husbands like this are usually very organised, but recommended communicating and relaxing over things that cannot be controlled.

Some commenters shared humour and relatability.

@unicornsistic said simply, “Ahahahaha this is hilarious,” while @MirulHaziqRadzi compared the husband to Nobita, pointing out that even the famous cartoon character is sometimes behind schedule, implying her husband really overdoes punctuality.

Others stressed the impact on family, with @toaster_cracker noting, “If it’s just punctuality, fine. But leaving the family behind? That’s really bad.”

As @peachaenine put it, “Using Japan as an excuse to be the fastest is a stupid reason—he shouldn’t have gotten married and should have just stayed there.”
