JUST when Malaysians are craving their favourite buka puasa treats, a netizen has sparked outrage online after claiming to have bought a mouldy cucur badak from a Ramadan bazaar.
In a now-viral post, the individual wrote: “That’s why sometimes I’m too lazy to go to the market — ‘cucur badak, extra flavour.’”
The sarcasm wasn’t subtle. Attached to the post were three close-up photos allegedly showing white mould patches on the cucur badak — turning the phrase “extra flavour” into a biting dig at what appeared to be fungal growth on the kuih.
Every year, Ramadan bazaars — while loved for their variety and nostalgia — also make headlines for the wrong reasons.

For many, Ramadan bazaars are meant to be a festive highlight — a place to hunt for kuih, ayam percik, murtabak, and nostalgic kampung flavours.

The comment section was flooded with reactions, with some expressing frustration while others shared similar experiences.
One user called flzndzr commented to say: “I thought it was icing sugar!”
“Crazy… from what era is this cucur badak that they’re selling? I’m really puzzled. Back when I used to run a bazaar stall, kuih keria and cucur badak were always the last items I would fry before sending them to the bazaar. That’s because I knew these sweet potato-based kuih harden easily once they cool down.
“This one is even mouldy… What kind of business is this? That’s insane,” fairus_muhammad93 wrote.
