MERSING: Two roads in the district were closed to all traffic after coming under 0.15 metre (m) of water.

Mersing district police chief Supt Abdul Razak Abdullah Sani said the closure involved Jalan Kampung Orang Asli Peta and Jalan Masuk Tenggaroh Timur-Tanjung Leman.

However, he said motorists could still use the alternative route to Kampung Orang Asli Peta by going through Ladang Mutiara-Paloh.

“Therefore, we are calling on the people to adhere to the advice of the authorities to avoid untoward incident of being swept away by strong current.

“Apart from that, the people can obtain the latest information by contacting the district Disaster Control Centre or police,” he said when contacted by Bernama last night.

Meanwhile, the State Disaster Management Committee (JPBN) chairman Tan Sri Azmi Rohani said in Kota Tinggi, Jalan Sri Perani was under 0.3 metre of water and was only open on one lane to light vehicles.

“On the other hand in Jalan Kimlong water had risen to 0.2 metre and motorcyclists are advised against using the section due to the strong current and it is only accessible on one lane,” he said in statement today.

He also announced that there were 1,484 flood evacuees from 385 families in Johor involving the districts of Kota Tinggi, Kluang, Johor Bahru and Mersing with 13 temporary relief centres opened since yesterday as at 8 am this morning. - Bernama
