PETALING JAYA: A man managed to exit his car after it fell into a ravine at Jalan Bukit Sebelah in Kedah and caught fire earlier today.

Sik Fire and Rescue Station Chief, Assistant Fire Supt Zulkhairi Mat Tanjil confirmed that the 36-year-old Volkswagen Golf car owner escaped unharmed following the incident, the New Straits Times reported.

The fire and rescue department were alerted of the incident at 1.53am and a team of seven members led by Senior Fire Officer II Soffuan Sabry promptly arrived at the scene.

Soffuan said the man was believed to have been driving along toward Baling from Pekan Sik, and the incident was also said to have taken place while the victim was driving.

“Fire and Rescue personnel extinguished the fire until it was completely put out at the scene.

“He explained that the incident occurred while he was driving, and he perceived the road to be straight when it was actually a corner,“ he was quoted as saying.

Soffuan added that the car had sustained almost 90 percent of damages after it caught fire.

The case has since been handed over to the police and the Forensic Unit of the Kedah Fire and Rescue Department.
