KOTA BHARU: A woman and her young daughter were killed, and another passenger was injured, after the Perodua Viva car they were travelling in was involved in a head-on collision with a Toyota Corolla Cross sport utility vehicle, at KM10 of Jalan Pasir Puteh-Machang, Pasir Puteh, early this morning.
Pasir Puteh district police chief Supt Zaizul Rizal Zakaria said that the two deceased were a 36-year-old woman and her three-year-old daughter, while her 18-year-old niece was injured.
He said that the deceased and her two passengers were travelling from Machang towards Pasir Puteh.
“The accident occurred when the victim, who was driving a Perodua Viva, lost control of the vehicle, veered into the opposite lane, and crashed into an oncoming Toyota Corolla Cross SUV.
“Due to the impact of the collision, the woman driving the Perodua Viva died at the scene of the incident, and her daughter died while receiving treatment at Tengku Anis Hospital. Her niece was also treated at the same hospital,” he said in a statement, today.
Zaizul Rizal said that the case was being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, and the police asked the public who had information about the case to come forward to the nearest station, or contact the investigating officer at 019-938 6224.
