KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Direct Distribution Association’s (MDDA) 25th annual dinner was held recently with the objective of ‘Shaping Network Marketing into the 21st Century’.

It aims to create an evolution of togetherness among key players in Malaysia multi-level marketing industry through knowledge and technology on its 25th year of establishment.

With the theme ‘MDDA – Pioneering The Future’, Datin Sylvia Koh the organising chairman and esteemed member of the association hope that more successful entrepreneurs will be born and excel in the industry.

Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail congratulated MDDA for the establishment of MDDA Academy in educating more Malaysians who wish to improve their lives and have better income through direct selling.

Saifuddin said MDDA is working closely with the government to minimise cases of scams related to Pyramid Scheme or Ponzi Scheme that will affect the reputation of multi-level marketing companies in Malaysia.

According to him, direct selling industry is at mature level in Malaysia as the country is listed in top 10 of the global direct selling industry and top five in Asia. Saifuddin said he believes that in 2020 this industry will contribute RM20 Billion to the growth of Malaysian economy.

Established in 1993, the association was previously known as Multi-Level Marketing Association, Malaysia (MLMA) and changed to Malaysian Direct Distribution Association (MDDA) in 1999.

As the industry’s self-regulator, MDDA promotes public understanding of what constitutes good direct selling practices, inform and educate the public on challenges and issues like pyramid and get-rich-quick schemes.

MDDA also serves as a platform to solicit public opinion with the ultimate aim to better the industry as a whole.

Its president, Rosedy Issa in his speech expressed his gratitude to witness the achievements of many entrepreneurs born from MLM system in the past 25 years and welcome new entrepreneurs who would like to explore their potential to succeed in the industry.

In achieving its objective, MDDA signed an MOU with Global Federation of Direct Selling Association (GFSDA) which was represented by A.P. Reddy, President of Federation of Direct Selling Association, India (FDSA) and a representative from Philippines Direct Distribution Association (PDDA), Mr Roberto Monsanto Bascuna, Jr and Alex Sampilo.

In the year 2018, MDDA conducted a series of training in Direct Selling Intrapreneurship to expose more entrepreneurs to multi-level marketing. The 2 days training improves intrapreneurial skills in the direct selling business.

The ceremony proceeded with recognizing companies by the year of establishments and membership with MDDA. In honouring the 25th year of establishment, two charitable organization were selected as a beneficiary in this annual dinner. Pertubuhan Kebajikan & Pendidikan Rumah Kita received a donation from MXM International Sdn Bhd and Gurdura Foundation received a donation from Destina 1 International.
