Biman Bangladesh Airlines will resume Dhaka-Karachi flights from January 29, ending a 14-year gap and boosting travel and trade between the nations.
DHAKA: Direct flights between Bangladesh and Pakistan will resume later this month after a 14-year hiatus.
Biman Bangladesh Airlines announced it will operate the first Dhaka to Karachi service on January 29.
The national carrier will fly the route twice weekly, marking the return of regular flights last seen in 2012.
“We are relaunching the Dhaka–Karachi route with two weekly flights,” airline manager Bosra Islam said.
The airline stated the resumed connectivity will significantly support business travel, tourism, and family reunions.
Currently, travellers must use connecting flights through Gulf hubs like Dubai and Doha.
The two nations, separated by over 1,500 kilometres of Indian territory, were once united before splitting after the 1971 war.
The resumption follows a warming of diplomatic and economic ties in recent years.
Cargo ship sailings between Karachi and Bangladesh’s Chittagong port resumed in November 2024.
Trade has increased since then, alongside growing cultural exchanges and medical tourism.
