Man jailed, caned for possessing kerambit knife

A man in Kota Bharu was sentenced to five years in prison and one stroke of the cane for possessing a dangerous kerambit knife without permission.

KOTA BHARU: A man was sentenced to five years in prison and one stroke of the cane by the Sessions Court here today.

Judge Nik Habri Mohamad imposed the sentence on Mohd Nazrulhisam Mohd Nordin, 44, after he pleaded guilty.

The offence involved possessing a brown kerambit knife measuring 12 centimetres by the side of Jalan Kampung Telong, Bachok at 5.20 pm on Dec 29 last year.

He was charged under Section 6(1) of the Corrosive Substances, Explosives and Dangerous Weapons Act 1958.

Deputy public prosecutor Nur Syafiqah Mohamad requested a sentence commensurate with the crime as a lesson to the accused.

Mohd Nazrulhisam, who was unrepresented, pleaded for a lighter sentence.

He stated he had to care for three school-going children and was still living with his parents.
