Unemployed man denies possessing pistol, faces multiple charges

A 37-year-old unemployed man pleads not guilty to possessing a pistol without a permit and faces additional charges including intimidation and drug possession.

SUNGAI PETANI: An unemployed man pleaded not guilty at the Sessions Court here to possessing a pistol without a valid permit.

Kor Wei Ye, 37, entered his plea after the charge was read to him in Mandarin before Judge Nabisha Ibrahim.

He was accused of possessing a silver Sigarms pistol without a permit at a house in Bandar Laguna Merbok at 9 am on December 7.

The charge, under Section 8 of the Firearms (Increased Penalties) Act 1971, carries a potential prison sentence of up to 14 years and a minimum of six strokes of the cane upon conviction.

The court denied Kor bail and set January 21 for mention and document submission.

At the Magistrate’s Court, Kor also pleaded not guilty to five additional charges.

These included unlawful possession of 10 bullets, three counts of criminal intimidation against three individuals, and drug possession.

He was accused of committing all offences at the same house in Bandar Laguna Merbok on the same date and time.

Magistrate Muhammad Syaiful Akmal Mohamad Razi set January 21 for mention of all cases except the drug possession charge.

The drug case was set for mention on April 21 to allow for the submission of a chemical report.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Wan Muhammad Fitri Wan Azizan conducted the prosecution in the Sessions Court case.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Adlin Sufiya Kamaruzzaman led the prosecution in the Magistrate’s Court.

Lawyer Chong Choon Yuen represented Kor for all cases, including the unlawful firearms possession charge. – Bernama
