A company director was arrested for allegedly taking RM100,000 in bribes to hand over former estate workers’ land for development without their consent.
KUALA LUMPUR: The Selangor Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has arrested a company director suspected of soliciting and accepting approximately RM100,000 in bribes from a property development firm.
A source stated the bribe was allegedly in exchange for facilitating the handover of land belonging to former estate workers in Selangor for commercial development purposes.
The man in his 60s was arrested at around 12.20 pm today when he attended the Selangor MACC office to give his statement.
Preliminary investigations indicate the suspect is believed to have committed the offence between 2020 and 2025 by handing over land belonging to 136 former estate workers without their knowledge or consent.
The suspect, who was the trustee of the eight-acre land, is also believed to have received bribes several times over the five-year period and obtained about RM5 million from the acquisition of the land itself.
Selangor MACC director Mohd Azwan Ramli confirmed the arrest when contacted by Bernama.
The case is being investigated under Section 16(a)(A) of the MACC Act 2009, with the suspect to be brought to the Shah Alam Magistrate’s Court tomorrow for a remand application.
