BATU PAHAT: A driver involved in a fatal incident where a Standard Two pupil was hit by a van has been remanded for three days from today.

District police chief ACP Shahrulanuar Mushaddat Abdullah Sani, when contacted by Bernama, said the remand order against the 60-year-old suspect was obtained to assist investigations under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

The victim, Nur Aini Umairah Mohd Fareez, died after being run over in front of the gate of Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Seri Maimon, Parit Sulong, at about 12.30 pm yesterday.

Preliminary investigations found that the van was exiting the school compound through the main gate towards the Jalan Simpang Lima-Parit Sulong after completing a delivery.

The victim suffered severe head and internal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by a medical assistant from the Parit Sulong Health Clinic.

Her remains were buried at the Kampung Parit Mustaffa Muslim cemetery at about 9 pm last night.

Following the incident, the Johor State Government has set up a special committee to examine school road safety, as well as to improve existing safety guidelines.
