Health Ministry launches ‘Warisku, Hormati Ikrarku’ campaign to boost donor pledges and ensure families respect final wishes.

KUALA LUMPUR: The Ministry of Health has designated 2026 as a national mission year to promote organ donation. The initiative, titled ‘Warisku, Hormati Ikrarku’ (My Family, Respect My Pledge), aims to ensure families respect the final wishes of registered donors.

Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad said next-of-kin support is vital for successful transplants. He acknowledged that digital pledges made via the MySejahtera app must be shared with families beforehand.

Over 400,000 Malaysians have pledged as donors through the app. However, more than 10,000 patients remain on the national waiting list because some families do not honour these wishes.

The minister expressed sorrow and admiration for a 21-year-old donor, Muhammad Zahran Muhammad Zuraidi, who died at Selayang Hospital. Dzulkefly said the donor had left a “lifeline” for others by donating his liver, kidneys, corneas, and heart.

“I am deeply moved by the fortitude shown by his mother,” he said in a post on X. “She truly represents the ‘Warisku, Hormati Ikrarku’ campaign, choosing to honour her son’s final wish despite her grief.”

Media reports state organ transplantation will be promoted as a national agenda. The Ministry is restructuring the National Transplant Centre to serve as the central body overseeing policy, administration, and coordination.

Dzulkefly noted organ transplant rates in Malaysia remain low despite strong clinical expertise. This is amid rising end-stage organ failure from non-communicable diseases and gaps in early prevention and care.
