NRD denies viral claim of MyKad misuse by foreigner

The National Registration Department refutes a viral social media claim about a foreigner misusing a deceased person’s MyKad number.

PUTRAJAYA: The National Registration Department has denied a viral social media claim alleging the MyKad number of a deceased individual was misused by a foreigner.

In a statement, the NRD said checks confirmed both individuals mentioned in the post are Malaysian citizens with separate MyKad numbers.

The department found no evidence of identity misuse, unauthorised document issuance, or foreigner involvement as alleged.

The claim originated from a post showing two different names during a check on the eGUMIS portal for unclaimed money.

The NRD confirmed the complainant’s late father’s MyKad number remains valid and registered under his name.

The family can obtain official verification at any NRD office, according to the statement.

Cross-checks were conducted to verify the information’s accuracy.

The NRD advised the complainant to contact the Unclaimed Money Management Division directly for verification and claims.

“The public is also advised not to speculate and make baseless accusations or spread unverified information,” the statement added.

Such actions may cause confusion and public concern, the NRD warned.
