IGP says the new book on PDRM’s UN missions serves as a masterclass in crisis management and strategic leadership.
KUALA LUMPUR: The book ‘United Nations Peacekeeping Missions of the Royal Malaysia Police’ (PDRM), launched today, should serve as a PDRM masterclass in crisis management and strategic leadership, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohd Khalid Ismail said.
The book not only records the evolution of Malaysia’s policing doctrine but also traces the sweat, tears and courage of PDRM personnel in international missions, serving as a profound reflection of the humanitarian role played by Malaysian peacekeepers, he added.
“It tells the story of the evolution of our policing doctrine, from a force that was resilient in dealing with domestic threats to an internationally respected entity under the UN’s blue flag,” he said in his speech at the book launch ceremony here today.
National Book Development Foundation Board of Trustees chairman Tan Sri Prof Dr Abdul Latiff Abu Bakar and Home Ministry Deputy Secretary-General (Security) Datuk Abdul Halim Abdul Rahman were also present at the launch.
Mohd Khaled said the book also highlights genuine leadership tested on the ground in environments marked by uncertainty, drastic change and severe resource constraints in conflict zones.
“Through the historical accounts of the 13 global missions featured, readers are presented with practical action plans demonstrating how cross-cultural cooperation and high-impact decision-making are implemented.
“The experiences documented in each chapter prove that Malaysia’s ‘Acuan Kepolisian Watan’ (national policing model) is highly effective and can be adapted anywhere, demonstrating that our standards and reputation are recognised worldwide,” he said.
He said PDRM’s participation in UN peacekeeping missions should not be viewed solely from the perspective of physical security, but also through the lens of human values, such as the right to live with dignity and hope, in line with the aspirations of Malaysia MADANI.
Mohd Khaled also congratulated the team of authors and strategic partners, including UPM Press, Yayasan Generasi Malaysia and the National Book Development Foundation, on producing the 500-page book.
He said the collaboration between security institutions, academia and community foundations should serve as an example of how to enrich the nation’s body of knowledge.
At the ceremony, PDRM also received recognition from ASEAN Records for deploying the largest national police contingent to a host country across the entire series of United Nations missions.
