GEORGE TOWN: An elderly man was killed after his car veered off the road at Desa Mawar in Farlim.

The victim, 67-year-old Lim Soon Teik, sustained severe facial injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Penang Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of operations John Sagun Francis said they received an emergency call at 9.37am.

The team arrived to find the car off the road with the victim badly injured.

“The victim received initial treatment from the medical team at the scene but later succumbed to his injuries,” he said.

Firefighters extricated the body and sent it to Penang Hospital, concluding operations by 11.05am.

In a separate incident, a man died after falling into a three-metre-deep drain on Jalan Sungai Daun in Nibong Tebal.

The Fire and Rescue Department was alerted at 11.12pm last night.

The victim, 61-year-old R. Mahendran, had already been pulled from the drain by members of the public.

His body was later handed over to the authorities for a post-mortem.
