His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia urges schools and parents to strengthen moral, religious and character development following serious criminal cases involving students.
SHAH ALAM: His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, has expressed deep concern over recent serious criminal cases involving students.
The monarch noted these incidents raise serious questions about the moral, religious and character development of young Malaysians.
Sultan Ibrahim said such cases have tarnished the image of the country’s educational institutions.
Speaking as Chancellor of Universiti Teknologi MARA, he urged schools to undergo an educational revolution emphasising humanity and morality.
His Majesty also stressed the importance of emotional control and legal awareness in student development.
“Through this approach, we can cultivate a disciplined generation that respects one another,” Sultan Ibrahim said at UiTM’s 103rd Convocation Ceremony.
The King emphasised that addressing these issues extends beyond classroom walls as broader social responsibility.
He stated that education and moral development should begin at home as part of everyday life.
“Home is the first school for every individual, where children are taught values, discipline and a sense of responsibility to society from a young age,” His Majesty added.
Sultan Ibrahim also reminded parents and educators to guide students in responsible digital technology use.
He noted constant exposure to violent content can increase aggression among teenagers.
However, the King cautioned that restricting digital access entirely isn’t the solution.
Such restrictions could disrupt the digital and remote learning ecosystem, he explained.
The convocation was attended by Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir and UiTM vice-chancellor Professor Datuk Dr Shahrin Sahib @ Sahibuddin.
A total of 32,630 graduates received diplomas and degrees across various fields during the ceremony.
The event also saw the appointment of former Higher Education Minister Tan Sri Idris Jusoh as UiTM Pro-Chancellor.
UiTM conferred the title of Professor Emeritus on Dr Suhaimi Abdul Talib for his contributions to civil engineering. – Bernama
