LRT3 Shah Alam line set to begin operations before June

Transport Minister Anthony Loke says the LRT3 Shah Alam line is on track to start service before June, pending final testing and technical issue resolution

KUALA LUMPUR: The Light Rail Transit 3 (LRT3) service connecting Shah Alam is expected to begin operations before June this year.

Transport Minister Anthony Loke stated that all testing and commissioning processes should be completed within the next one to two months.

He provided this update during a question-and-answer session at the Dewan Negara.

Loke confirmed that two train sets, comprising 14 of the 22 trains, have completed fault-free run testing.

Another set of eight trains is still undergoing its 22-day fault-free run testing process.

“As of yesterday, there are still several technical issues which need to be resolved,” he said.

He explained that after all fault-free run tests are concluded, the Land Public Transport Agency will conduct final testing and commissioning.

“All of this is expected to be completed within the next one to two months.”

Loke was responding to a supplementary question from Senator Mohd Hasbie Muda regarding the project’s revised completion date.

He assured that Prasarana Malaysia Berhad is expediting the project to potentially open the line earlier than June.

The minister denied that delays were linked to the project’s earlier cost rationalisation measures.

He clarified that the current hold-ups are solely due to technical issues encountered during system testing.

“What is happening now involves technical issues, not cost-cutting issues,” Loke emphasised.

He stated that earlier cost-reduction measures, including station reductions, had already accounted for implementation factors.

“What is happening now has no direct connection to the cost rationalisation decisions or the project implementation method made in 2018.”

This statement was in response to a supplementary question from Datuk Rosni Sohar.
