Membakut residents welcome BN candidate’s bridge upgrade pledge

Kampung Binsulok residents relieved as BN candidate pledges to replace hazardous wooden bridge that previously collapsed, forcing raft use

MEMBAKUT: Kampung Binsulok residents in Membakut state constituency have welcomed efforts to upgrade their village’s ageing wooden bridge, which they describe as hazardous.

Resident Rahduan Abu Bakar, 47, confirmed the bridge is old and poses risks to children travelling to the grocery shop and religious school.

“The bridge in Kampung Binsulok really is old and in need of repair as the wood has decayed,” he told Bernama.

He revealed the bridge previously collapsed when a lorry attempted to cross, requiring a year for repairs and forcing residents to use rafts for transportation.

Housewife Hatizah Baktir, 34, described how users must exercise extreme caution as the structure sways and only accommodates single-file vehicle traffic.

“It seems to rock too… you need to let one car pass before I can pass,” she explained.

BN candidate for Membakut Rusman Dulamit committed to rebuilding the bridge with a stronger structure if elected.

He stated a new bridge would resolve safety concerns while facilitating student access to school and supporting local economic activities.

The bridge upgrade and construction of the previously dilapidated Sekolah Kebangsaan Binsulok represent BN initiatives spearheaded by Kimanis MP Datuk Mohamad Alamin.

Rusman faces a ten-cornered contest against incumbent Datuk Mohd Arifin Mohd Arif of GRS, who has held the Membakut seat since 2004. – Bernama
