A motorcyclist suffered minor injuries after hitting an elephant on the Gerik-Jeli highway, with the animal then damaging the motorcycle.
GERIK: A motorcyclist was injured in a collision with an elephant on the East-West Highway near Tasik Banding yesterday evening.
Gerik Police chief Supt Abdul Samad Othman said the 36-year-old man was riding home when he encountered the elephant standing on the road at Kilometre 31.
“The motorcyclist tried to avoid it, but a collision still occurred with the elephant, causing the rider to fall,” he said in a statement.
Abdul Samad said the rider managed to get up and flee the scene after the accident.
The elephant then proceeded to damage the Honda RS 150R motorcycle.
The rider sustained minor injuries and received treatment at Gerik Hospital.
His motorcycle was damaged in the unusual incident.
Police have advised road users to exercise extra caution on the East-West Highway.
Wildlife may be crossing or present on the road in the area. – Bernama
