Selangor MB Amirudin Shari says state exco will meet the sultan to detail plans for a centralised, modern pig farming industry in Bukit Tagar
SHAH ALAM: The Selangor state government will brief the Sultan of Selangor on its plans for a modern, centralised pig farming industry in Bukit Tagar.
Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said State Infrastructure and Agriculture Committee chairman Datuk Izham Hashim (picture) is scheduled to meet Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah this Monday.
The meeting will allow the state to present details of a decision made by the State Executive Council.
Amirudin said the council decided to tighten operational requirements for pig farming in Selangor.
The focus will be on better waste management to prevent negative effects on the drainage system.
He added that the initiative aims to protect community health and the environment while preventing odour pollution.
The goal is for the industry to operate safely without upsetting local sensitivities.
Amirudin said the decision is part of a structured approach to address the sensitive issue in a balanced way.
“The state government values the concerns, advice, and guidance of the Selangor Ruler in addressing this issue,” he said.
Earlier, Sultan Sharafuddin expressed disappointment with the state’s plan to allow pig farming in Tanjong Sepat, Kuala Langat.
The Sultan was concerned the plan could involve a large-scale, export-oriented project covering 202 hectares.
According to a palace statement, operations in Tanjong Sepat were to start this year before moving to Bukit Tagar by 2030.
