Perak JPV seizes 64 sheep and goats worth RM110,000 in Tapah for lacking a valid transport permit during a festive season operation.
IPOH: The Perak Department of Veterinary Services (JPV) has seized 64 livestock animals and a lorry valued at a total of RM110,000.
The enforcement action occurred during ‘Ops Korban Tegas’ on the North-South Expressway near Tapah.
Authorities stopped a lorry at about 11 am yesterday for transporting the animals without a valid permit.
A total of 37 sheep and 27 goats, estimated to be worth RM30,000, were confiscated.
The lorry used in the operation was valued at RM80,000.
State JPV director Dr Saifullizam Abd Kadir said the livestock was believed to be intended as sacrificial stock for the upcoming Hari Raya Aidiladha.
“We were conducting monitoring operations related to livestock transportation when we came across the lorry carrying the animals,” he said in a statement.
He added that the animals were believed to have originated from Kelantan and were en route to Selangor.
The 31-year-old lorry driver was detained for questioning but has since been released.
The case is being investigated under Section 36(1) of the Animals Act 1953.
