PM Anwar Ibrahim calls on Sabah voters to choose representatives who can negotiate directly with Putrajaya to accelerate development projects.
KOTA MARUDU: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has urged Sabah voters to elect representatives capable of working directly with the federal government to accelerate development.
Speaking at the PMX Sayang Sabah gathering, Anwar emphasised the importance of supporting Pakatan Harapan candidate Zaidi Jatil in Bandau for the 17th Sabah State Election.
“Choose a representative who can negotiate with me and take care of Bandau,” Anwar told the crowd.
He promised that if Zaidi wins, he would be given one month to list all problems in Bandau with solutions targeted by early January 2026.
Anwar noted his visit to Bandau followed reports of strong potential for a PH victory in the 13-cornered contest.
The PH chairman highlighted being the most frequent visiting prime minister to Sabah since taking office, demonstrating his commitment to the state’s development.
He praised Sabahans for maintaining multi-ethnic harmony across different religions and cultures.
“This state is peaceful because the people are wise,” Anwar said.
The prime minister reiterated the federal government’s commitment to returning 40% of Sabah’s revenue, noting both governments have agreed to implement this.
He highlighted significant government measures including the highest civil service salary increase in history and raising the minimum wage to RM1,700.
Anwar also noted the 20% pay cut for ministers and his own decision not to take a salary as prime minister.
Polling for the Sabah state election is on Saturday. – Bernama
