BN’s Mohd Ismail vows to upgrade local MARA courses to diploma level and fix dilapidated schools as part of his Lamag by-election education agenda.
KINABATANGAN: Barisan Nasional candidate for the Lamag state by-election, Mohd Ismail Ayob, has pledged to propose upgrading local MARA institutions from certificate to diploma-level programmes.
The 44-year-old candidate, known as Miha, said this would allow local youth to access higher skills training without leaving the constituency.
He outlined human capital development and fixing dilapidated schools as key parts of his agenda.
“Among our manifesto pledges is to strengthen education by establishing skills-based higher education institutions for the benefit of local residents,” he told reporters after meeting parents and teachers.
Mohd Ismail said close state-federal cooperation would help resolve issues with dilapidated school infrastructure with support from the Education Ministry.
He also urged the ministry to speed up the rebuilding of SK Bukit Garam II’s hall, which was damaged in a fire last month.
On the campaign’s third day, he said door-to-door efforts would continue while social media engagement would be intensified to reach young voters.
The Lamag by-election is a straight fight between Mohd Ismail and Mazliwati Abdul Malek of Warisan.
It is being held following the death of incumbent Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin on Dec 5 last year.
Polling is on Jan 24, with early voting on Jan 20.
