Safer Internet Day 2026 to champion safe and ethical AI use

Safer Internet Day 2026 in Kuala Lumpur will focus on promoting the safe, responsible and ethical use of the internet and artificial intelligence for all.

KUALA LUMPUR: Safer Internet Day 2026 will be celebrated on February 8 with a focus on promoting the safe, responsible and ethical use of the internet and artificial intelligence.

The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission announced the large-scale community event will be held at Taman Tasik Titiwangsa.

It brings together digital safety education, smart technology and family-friendly entertainment.

The event coincides with International Safer Internet Day, celebrated annually in over 170 countries.

Its aim is to promote safe, responsible and positive internet use, particularly among children and young people.

This year’s theme is “Smart Technology, Safe Choices: Safe and Responsible Use of AI”.

The programme emphasises making wise digital choices when leveraging technology and AI.

“The main focus is on children, youth, and families so that technology is used ethically, safely and responsibly,” MCMC said in a statement.

The public can enjoy an interactive internet safety exhibition and pocket talk sessions with experts.

Other activities include community events, smart technology demonstrations and the launch of the Safe Internet Campaign 2026.

A mini-concert by local artistes will convey digital safety messages in a family-friendly atmosphere.

MCMC said the event supports efforts to build a MADANI Civil Society.

This society is envisioned as knowledgeable, resilient, competitive and responsible online.

The public is invited to attend and help create a safer internet ecosystem for everyone.
