Former chief ministers Mohd Shafie Apdal and Salleh Said Keruak among candidates in Sabah’s 73-seat state election with November 29 polling
KOTA KINABALU: Two former chief ministers are among 596 candidates contesting 73 seats in Sabah’s 17th state election.
Warisan president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal, Sabah’s 15th chief minister from 2018 to 2020, faces a four-cornered fight to defend his Senallang seat.
The 68-year-old previously won Senallang with majorities of 5,301 and 4,631 votes in earlier state elections.
Sabah UMNO treasurer Datuk Seri Dr Salleh Said Keruak, the ninth chief minister from 1994 to 1996, will defend his Usukan seat.
Salleh won Usukan with a 4,298-vote majority in the previous state election and has served four terms as assemblyman.
The Barisan Nasional candidate faces a six-cornered contest including former three-term Usukan assemblyman Datuk Japlin Akim.
Warisan women’s wing chief Isnaraissah Munirah Majilis, who is Kota Belud MP, also contests the Usukan seat.
The Election Commission set November 29 as polling day with early voting on November 25. – Bernama
