Eight injured in Pattani bomb blasts targeting security forces

Two separate bomb attacks in Thailand’s Pattani province injured five police officers and three civilians, with authorities launching investigations.

PATTANI: Five police officers and three civilians were injured in two separate bomb blasts targeting security installations in Thailand’s southern Pattani province.

The first explosion occurred at a police security command centre in Panare district on Tuesday evening, according to Internal Security Operations Command Region 4 (ISOC 4) spokesperson Colonel Yuttanam Pechmuang.

A motorcycle rigged with explosives detonated at the centre, injuring five police officers and damaging three vehicles and nearby buildings.

“Initial investigations found that the suspect had rigged the motorcycle with explosives before making a getaway on a four wheel drive vehicle,” said Yuttanam.

All injured officers from the first blast are receiving treatment at Pattani Hospital, with their conditions reported as stable.

A second bomb attached to a motorcycle exploded early Wednesday morning in front of a ranger security control headquarters in Khok Pho district.

That blast injured three civilians who were residents of a nearby area and also damaged a vehicle owned by a ranger officer.

Authorities have launched investigations to determine the suspects and motives behind both attacks.

ISOC-4 has called on the public to immediately report any information related to the incidents to the authorities.

Yuttanam also warned that any individual found protecting the suspects could face imprisonment of up to two years and a fine of 40,000 Baht.
