Israeli air strikes in southern Lebanon kill four, targeting Hezbollah sites as cross-border conflict intensifies with over 800 Lebanese fatalities reported.
BEIRUT: Overnight Israeli strikes in southern Lebanon killed at least four people.
Lebanese state media and the government confirmed the casualties on Sunday as Israel stated it was continuing its campaign against Iran-backed Hezbollah.
The National News Agency reported an Israeli strike hit a residential apartment building in Sidon.
One person was killed in that attack, which caused a significant fire.
To the southeast, three people were killed in an Israeli strike on the village of Al-Qatrani according to Lebanon’s health ministry.
The Israeli military said it struck Hezbollah infrastructure throughout Lebanon.
It specifically targeted several Hezbollah launch sites in Al-Qatrani where the group was allegedly preparing missile fire.
The military also stated it destroyed command centres belonging to Hezbollah’s elite Radwan Force in Beirut.
Hezbollah said on Sunday it was targeting Israeli troop positions near the border.
According to the Lebanese health ministry, Israeli air strikes have now killed 826 people in Lebanon since the latest conflict began on March 2.
Lebanese President Joseph Aoun has proposed negotiations with Israel but has yet to receive a response.
A Lebanese official told AFP the country was preparing a delegation for talks, though no agenda or timing was set.
French President Emmanuel Macron said Lebanon was ready for direct talks and offered to host negotiations in Paris.
“Everything must be done to prevent Lebanon from descending into chaos,” Macron warned.
