A British man faces 56 charges including rape and drugging his ex-wife over 13 years, with five other men also accused of offences against the same woman.

SWINDON: A British man accused of drugging and raping his ex-wife over a 13-year period has appeared in court.

Philip Young, 49, spoke only to confirm his name and details at Swindon Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

He was remanded in custody.

Young faces 56 offences including rape and administering a substance with intent to stupefy his 48-year-old former spouse, Joanne Young.

The alleged victim has waived her legal right to anonymity.

Other charges include voyeurism and possession of indecent and extreme images.

The alleged offences occurred between 2010 and 2023.

Young was not required to enter a plea. His next hearing is scheduled for Swindon Crown Court on January 23.

Five other men, aged between 31 and 61, also face charges involving the same alleged victim.

They include rape, sexual assault by penetration and sexual touching during the same period.

The men were due to appear in court later on Tuesday.

Wiltshire Police detective superintendent Geoff Smith said the charges followed a “complex and extensive investigation”.

He confirmed the victim had been supported by specially trained officers throughout the process.
