Sze Fei-Izzuddin credit opponents’ superior play for Malaysia Masters defeat

Malaysian men’s doubles pair admit their opponents’ superior gameplay and pressure led to their loss in the Malaysia Masters 2026 final.

KUALA LUMPUR: National professional men’s doubles pair Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Mohd Rumsani admitted that their opponents’ superior gameplay was among the reasons for their defeat to the Danish duo, Daniel Lundgaard-Mads Vestergaard, in the Malaysia Masters 2026 final today.

Nur Izzuddin said that their opponents put on an excellent performance and piled on continuous pressure from the start to the end of the match.

“Uh, I think the opponents played very well today. They really put pressure on us from the start of the game until the end,” he told reporters after the match.

At the same time, Nur Izzuddin also admitted that a factor in their defeat today was that their opponents had successfully read the duo’s gameplay, making it difficult for them to make tactical adjustments.

“Nothing else, I feel the opponents had definitely read our game, so we were slow to make changes,” he said.

Meanwhile, Sze Fei opined that the aspects of serving and receiving need to be improved ahead of their next tournament.

“I think in terms of service and receiving, I feel that is the part we need to do better in,” he said.

Nur Izzuddin added that their main focus moving forward is to regain their physical and mental fitness levels, given that they do not have much time to prepare for the Singapore Open.

“The most important thing for us right now is recovery, because we don’t have much time. So, the focus is on mental and physical (recovery),” he said.

Earlier, Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin missed out on their first title of the season after succumbing to a straight-set defeat of 21-16, 21-17 to the Danish pair in 42 minutes.
