McLaren names Fornaroli and O’Ward as F1 reserve drivers

McLaren F1 champions appoint Leonardo Fornaroli and Pato O’Ward as reserve drivers for the upcoming season, with Verschoor in a test role.

LONDON: Formula One champions McLaren have confirmed their reserve driver line-up for the new season.

Italian Leonardo Fornaroli, the reigning Formula Two champion, and Mexican IndyCar racer Pato O’Ward will share the reserve role.

Fornaroli, 21, joined the team last month in a test and development capacity. He will continue those duties supporting race drivers Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri.

O’Ward, who will continue his full-time IndyCar campaign, also served as a reserve for the team last season.

Dutch driver Richard Verschoor, who finished third in F2 last year, will also test for McLaren. Verschoor will compete in the European Le Mans series as the team prepares for a World Endurance Championship hypercar entry in 2027.

The new Formula One season begins with the Australian Grand Prix on March 8.
