MALAYSIA secured six gold medals on the sixth day of the Southeast Asian (SEA) Games, though the campaign was marred by the national Under-23 football team’s semifinal defeat.
The team lost 0-1 to Thailand, ending their hopes of reaching the final.
Wushu contributed two golds, with Tan Cheong Min winning the women’s combined nanquan, nandao and nangun event.

Tan later teamed with Loh Ying Ting and Pang Pui Yee to claim gold in the women’s duilian with weapons.
The rhythmic gymnastics squad, led by Commonwealth Games gold medalist Ng Joe Ee, earned Malaysia’s third gold with a score of 234.60 points at Gymnasium 5, Thammasat University.
National jumper Andre Anura Anuar won the men’s long jump with a leap of 7.71 metres, ending a 22-year gold medal drought in the event.
The men’s 6-Red team snooker trio of Thor Chuan Leong, Moh Keen Hoo and Lim Kok Leong secured gold at the Thunder Dome Stadium.
Swimmer Khiew Hoe Yean collected his second gold of the Games by winning the men’s 400m freestyle event.
Thailand leads the medal standings with 145 gold, 87 silver and 59 bronze medals.
Indonesia sits second with 52 golds, followed by Vietnam in third with 39.
Malaysia is currently fifth with a total of 26 gold, 28 silver and 80 bronze medals. – Bernama
