Ronaldo’s World Cup hopes intact despite hamstring injury

Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo sustains a hamstring injury but is expected to recover in time for the 2026 World Cup in North America.

PORTUGUESE football icon Cristiano Ronaldo has sustained a hamstring tendon injury. His Saudi Arabian club, Al-Nassr, confirmed the diagnosis on Tuesday.

The 41-year-old captain’s participation in the 2026 World Cup is not considered to be in doubt. Media reports suggest he could be sidelined for two to four weeks.

This recovery timeline would see him fit well before the tournament begins on June 11. The World Cup will be hosted across the United States, Mexico and Canada.

Ronaldo suffered the injury during an Al-Nassr match at Al-Fayha last month. The club stated he “has started a rehabilitation programme and his condition will be assessed day by day.”

The veteran forward is in line to make a record sixth World Cup appearance for Portugal. He previously played for top European clubs including Manchester United, Real Madrid and Juventus.
