Tottenham edge past Palace as Calvert-Lewin rescues Leeds at Sunderland

Tottenham beat Crystal Palace 1-0 to ease pressure on Thomas Frank, while Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s goal earned Leeds a 1-1 draw at Sunderland

TOTTENHAM Hotspur ground out a much-needed 1-0 win at Crystal Palace to ease pressure on manager Thomas Frank on Sunday.

Archie Gray was the unlikely match-winner at Selhurst Park with his first senior goal for the club.

Richarlison had two goals disallowed for offside but Gray’s header from a corner secured only Tottenham’s second win in nine league games.

“In the end we got over the line,” said Frank.

“The team showed great resilience today and I think the desire beat the details in the game.”

The victory lifts Tottenham to 11th in the table, just one point behind ninth-placed Palace.

Palace dominated possession after halftime but lacked the cutting edge to equalise, extending their winless run to five games.

Earlier, Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored for a sixth consecutive Premier League game to earn Leeds United a 1-1 draw at high-flying Sunderland.

Simon Adingra fired Sunderland into a half-time lead at the Stadium of Light.

Calvert-Lewin levelled early in the second period, latching onto Brenden Aaronson’s low cross for his eighth goal of the season.

The draw denied Sunderland a place in the top five, leaving them seventh and four points outside the Champions League places.

Leeds’ five-game unbeaten run has taken them seven points clear of the relegation zone.

“I’m not dancing on the table tonight,” said Leeds manager Daniel Farke.

“The feeling was if we were a bit more clinical we should have won the game.”
