Youth and Sports Ministry intensifies women’s golf development with MALGA support, including funding for student clinics and facility access.
KUALA LUMPUR: The Youth and Sports Ministry is intensifying efforts to develop women’s golf with support from the Malaysian Ladies Golf Association.
Minister Hannah Yeoh stated this includes preparing funds for organising golf clinics for students.
She emphasised these are continuous government initiatives to ensure golf development nurtures more high-potential women players.
“We have many development programmes to support MALGA and allocation funds for them to conduct clinics with students.”
Yeoh revealed they signed a memorandum of understanding with Subang National Golf Club for discounted facility access.
She explained prize money for local tournaments depends heavily on private sector sponsorship post-pandemic.
Yeoh urged more government-linked companies to invest in sports to support tournament funding.
“Prize money depends a lot on sponsorship without Maybank investing we wouldn’t have results like this.”
“Companies need to play their role but they want to see their support is worthwhile.”
She expressed pride in the five Malaysian women competing in the 2025 Maybank Championship.
Yeoh specifically highlighted Mirabel Ting’s excellent performance in her professional debut.
The other Malaysian participants were Kelly Tan, Genevieve Ling, Ashley Lau and Liyana Durisic. – Bernama
